December Tournament - Lake Perris 12/10/05
Lake Perris SRA is still open!
We wanted to
let the public know that only 20% of the surface area of Lake Perris has been affected by the recent draw down. 80% of the lake is still in use.
Swimming, fishing, camping and watercraft use are still in effect and you are more than welcome to come visit the park.
Reservations
can still be made for boating and camping but are not necessary at this time! Visitors will be treated to an uncrowded
park, and beautiful weather.
Winter season:
DEC 1st - FEB 28th
The white sand of Perris Beach stretches off in both directions and the expanse of blue water glitters
in the sunlight, lonely and calm it makes a great place to just sit and relax at this time of year. The mountains
on the other side of the lake are heavy with winter fog this early morning, and there is barely a breeze to disturb the trees.
To the east end, Allesandro Island
looms like some great beast rising out of the still water.
The hundred bird silence is only briefly
disturbed by the soft hum of a passing vehicle. Squirrels, pudgy for the winter, are rolling in the dust and dancing
between the bushes, and small birds skipping along the grass between the golden leaves of autumn and fallen pine cones.
The silhouette of a lone fisherman on the bow of his boat and the wake left by a low flying egret’s wing tips barely
brushing the water, these are the things that we come to find. This is Lake Perris. A quiet calm in the middle of the hectic city, a little piece
of nature to escape to when all you want to hear is the sound of the wind.
Formed by Perris Dam, Lake Perris
offers a variety of water recreation including swimming, fishing (shore, pier and boating), water craft use, sailing, waterskiing
and even scuba diving. Fishermen can find Rainbow Trout, Catfish and Large Mouth Bass here, and there are also opportunities
for hikers, bikers, joggers, and equestrians. There is even a climbing rock in an area south of the dam. The Ya’Heki’
Regional Indian Museum is in the area and is available for school groups and special tours.
Almost everybody will find something at Lake Perris for them. From the quiet calm of a winter morning, to the warm swimming waters
of the summer, from the heights of hiking Terry Peak to the view from walking across Perris Dam. A place to read, a place to study, a
place to escape the stress of the world, a place to picnic, a place to camp and bond with your family. You do not need
to be caught up in the busy summer and holiday weekends because there is something here at Lake Perris for you all year around.
